Causes of Abnormal Noise in Crossed Roller Bearings and Identification Methods


The abnormal noises that occur during the operation of crossed roller bearings are diverse in type, with complex formation mechanisms. The factors contributing to these noises are multifaceted, and various abnormal sounds often overlap, making them difficult to distinguish. The main causes include the following:

(1) Periodic vibration pulses caused by impact damage, scratches, or severe defects on the inner and outer raceways of the bearing.

(2) Non-periodic vibration pulses caused by defects such as impact damage and scratches on the rolling element surfaces.

(3) Periodic or non-periodic vibration pulses caused by residual magnetism attracting iron powder present on the raceway or rolling elements.

(4) Impulse of non-periodic vibration caused by impurities or dust entering the raceway running area of the bearing.

(5) A non-periodic vibration impulse caused by the violent impact between the rolling elements and the cage pockets.

(6) Poor lubricant performance, sliding friction between the rolling elements and the retainer pockets, and vibration impulses generated by the rolling elements compressing the lubricant during operation.
