Commonly used rotary tables in CNC machine tools include indexing rotary tables and CNC rotary tables. When machining certain parts, CNC machine tools not only require linear feed motions along the X, Y, and Z axes but sometimes also need circular motions around the X, Y, and Z axes—referred to as the A, B, and C axes, respectively.
The CNC rotary table can be used to perform circular feed motion; in addition, it can also carry out indexing motions. The indexing table, on the other hand, serves solely to rotate and reposition the workpiece. When used in conjunction with an automatic tool-changing device, it enables a single workpiece setup to complete multiple operations on several different surfaces, thereby greatly improving work efficiency. Although the external appearance of the CNC rotary table is not significantly different from that of the indexing table, its internal structure features a number of distinctive characteristics. Since the CNC rotary table is capable of performing feed motions, its structural design shares many similarities with the feed drive mechanisms found in CNC machine tools. The key difference lies in the fact that the drive mechanism of a CNC machine tool achieves linear feed motion, whereas the CNC rotary table accomplishes circular feed motion.

Rotary tables are widely used in various CNC milling machines, boring machines, vertical lathes, and vertical milling machines. In addition to requiring the rotary table to effectively support the weight of the workpiece, it must also ensure high rotational accuracy under load. As the core component of the rotary table, the rotary table bearing not only needs to have a high load-carrying capacity during operation but also must exhibit high rotational accuracy, strong resistance to overturning, and the ability to handle high rotational speeds.

How do you measure the preload of a bearing?
During the use of bearings, we often find that their service life is shorter than expected. We suspect that this minor wear and deformation may be related to the bearing’s preload. Next, let’s take a closer look at how to better control the bearing’s preload and what the appropriate measurement methods are.
