Radial and Thrust Bearings
Rolling bearings are classified into two categories according to the primary direction of the load they bear: radial bearings and thrust bearings.
Radial bearing
Radial bearings can withstand loads that are perpendicular to the shaft. Some radial bearings can only handle purely radial loads, while most radial bearings can also accommodate axial loads in the same direction. In certain cases, they can even handle axial loads in both directions.
Thrust bearing
Thrust bearings primarily withstand loads acting along the axial direction. Depending on their design, thrust bearings can support either unidirectional or bidirectional pure axial loads, and some can additionally handle radial loads. However, thrust bearings cannot achieve the same high rotational speeds as radial bearings of the same size.
